As a primary care physician, Dr. Jana McKenzie strives to create a relationship with patients that promotes trust and communication. She has extensive experience in cardiology, gastroenterology, rheumatology and diabetes.
A highlight of her office is “Nurse Lilly”, Dr. McKenzie’s trained Labrador therapy dog. Nurse Lilly comes to work with Dr. McKenzie everyday to help patients relax and feel welcome.
Dr. McKenzie came to Watkinsville from south Florida, where she practiced with Tenet Physician Services in Pompano Beach, Citrus Medical Associates in Inverness, and Brevard Health Care in Melbourne from 1998 until 2010.
Board-certified in internal medicine, Dr. McKenzie earned her bachelor’s degree in pyschology with high distinction from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and her doctor’s degree from the University of Cincinnati Collge of Medicine, Cincinnati, Ohio. While in medical school, she was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, a medical honor society open only to the top 10 percent of the graduating class. She completed an internship in internal medicine at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham and her internal medicine residency at University of Cincinnati Hospital.
In addition, Dr. McKenzie served as a research assistant with the University of Michigan Department of General Medicine and Psychology and also with the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine’s Department of Neurology. She, her husband, and their two children reside in Statham.
